Using multiple 12XN cabs
We make a lot of different 12XN models - here's how they match up best!
When it comes to the 1x12XN models we have the Super Mini (fka Super Midget), Super Compact, Super 3rd and Big Baby 3. And for the 2x12XN models we have the Super Twin and Big Twin 3. All the "Super" models are also available as T versions (tweeter) which sound the same as the non-T version with the HF control set to minimum, and can add brightness and treble extension as you turn the HF control up.
If you only have one cab with a tweeter then we recommend putting it on top of the stack but that isn't essential - sometimes it'll look better or be more stable with that cab on the bottom.
Recommended 2x12XN stacks:
Top cab | Bottom cab | Impedance | Sensitivity | Power handling |
Super Mini | Super Mini | 4 ohm | 100 dB | 1200W |
Super Mini | Super Compact | 4 ohm | 100 dB | 1200W |
Super Mini | Big Baby 3 | 4 ohm | 100 dB | 1200W |
Super Compact | Super Compact | 4 ohm | 100 dB | 1200W |
Big Baby 3 | Big Baby 3 | 4 ohm | 100 dB | 1600W |
Recommended dual cab 3x12XN stacks:
Top cab | Bottom cab | Impedance | Sensitivity | Power handling |
Super 3rd | Super Twin | 2.7 ohm | 102 dB | 1800W |
Big Baby 3 | Big Twin 3 | 2.7 ohm | 102 dB | 2400W |
You might notice lots of options missing - that doesn't mean they won't work. But if you're looking to buy two Barefaced 1x12XN cabs to stack, here's the pair I would NOT recommend: Big Baby 3 (or 2) + Super Compact (or Super 3rd).
I shall try my best to explain why! Basically the BB3 goes lowest, whilst the SC doesn't go as low but has similar output in the lows (just rolling off higher). The SM rolls off a bit higher and has less output. When you put a BB3 with an SM, the BB3 fills in below the SM. When you put an SC with an SM they help each other out, more in unison than one on top of the other in terms of the low frequencies. But the BB3 and SC overlap in such a way that they don't add in such a nice way. It's not awful by any means and I'm sure someone out there is using a BB2 or BB3 with an SC - but I think you can do better with 2x12XN cabs.
