Hi Alex and gang!
I ordered a BB3 last year and have been absolutely loving it since I got it - paired with a Mesa/boogie TT-800. Aside from playing bass, I also play pedal steel and have been experimenting with running my pedal steel through the BB3. I have a quilter tone lock 202 that I run into it, and I can get a pretty nice sound overall but I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth exploring any sort of IR or speaker sim pedals to make use of the FRFR nature of the BB3, get it sounding more like a *steel guitar* speaker of sorts. I’d like to be able to shape the overall tone in this way as opposed to trying to eq heavier on the preamp than I normally would. Wondering if you have any ideas for best practice, or for any IR gear that would pair particularly well with a BB3?
I’ve never really messed with IR/speaker sim stuff so coming at this from a place of knowing next to nothing. Even if you can’t really recommend running a pedal steel through the BB3 that’s helpful info as well.
Thanks in advance!
Jesse

Hi Jesse,
Glad you're loving it! The BB3 is super accurate so if you put any pedal steel speaker IR into it then it'll get that sound really well. I don't know about standalone IR gear, it's not something I use but everyone here is using Quad Cortex or Helixes. James here has built a pedal steel and he says there's a particular Peavey combo that's most popular for it and I'm sure Eminence make some pedal steel speakers, so maybe there are IRs for them?
Best regards,
Alex
