Barefaced Bass - Ultra lightweight high power bass guitar speaker cabinets

23/09/26 - Activier One10T - UK

Hi Alex,

I hope this finds you well!

Thanks so much for the Activier One10T you sent me earlier this year - I absolutely love it - my favourite double bass cab ever!

I’ve been using it quite a bit over the summer in conjunction with a grace designs Felix and it’s easily the best and most natural sound I’ve had on the double bass. I do quite a bit of rhythm section work with the London orchestras (I used the one10 in the last night of the proms!) so it is mainly used as acoustic reinforcement and to help project - I actually much prefer it to the super midget (that I have used and loved for ten or so years) in this setting.

So much so that I sold the used and battered Super Midget to a colleague and I now regret doing so!

When I combine the One10T with my [passive One10 to get some more volume and weight (particularly on electric) I find that it becomes a bit too boomy (in a hard to eq out way) on upright when I’m doubling.

The super midget was great for the sort of doubling I do - loud enough and obviously tiny, but I’ve always been curious as to how the low end differs with your larger cabs.

I found the low end of the midget quite punchy but maybe not as round as others, although who knows if any of this is noticed in a mix - perhaps it might even cut through better - boomy stages are the enemy of bassists, but so common.

I like the idea of the big baby 3 but perhaps a super compact t would actually suit me better? Do many double bassists use these, or would just suggest just getting another super mini?

In short I love a single One10T for double bass and I really liked using two for electric (fender nothing too modern or FX-y) but would love your suggestion for something for doubling at louder volumes than the One10 (although it is amazingly loud for such a light load!)

Sorry if this is rambling, and thanks in advance, as ever, for your advice!

All best,

Laurence

Hi Laurence,

Great to hear it's working so well and being used on such significant gigs!

Best regards,

Alex
