28/05/25 - Upsetter 112N (Neo Copperback) - NZ
After spending some time with the cab I have reached a couple conclusions:
- I really like the cab, the AVD works as advertised giving semi omni dispersion up into the low mids, making the cab sound much bigger than it is and going deeper than you would expect for the size. It's crazy light and rigid with the right amount of cab resonance for guitar.
- I absolutely loathe the Neo Copperback speaker. It's entirely my fault, I got exactly what I ordered. I really wanted to like it. I tried very hard to like it, spending several days trying to get a sound I liked dialled in without success. I tried it against about 8 different guitar speakers (V30s, weber grey wolf, weber silver wolf, tone tubby alnico red, JBL K140, greenbacks, Eminence guv'nor) and I found everything else far preferable. I would suggest that the Copperback is so unlike other guitar speakers, that it would probably be useful to encourage anyone who is thinking of getting one to try one is person if possible, or at least listen carefully to some of the comparison videos on youtube. This is doubly true for anyone having it shipped to the opposite side of the planet.
To get to the cab usable for me I need to replace the speaker. Can you let me know what 12" speakers will fit in this custom cab? I would like to fit a V30, G12M-65 creamback, Greenback, or maybe a Hempback.
Cheers,
Isaac

Hi Isaac,
Glad you're liking the cab, sorry you don't like the Copperback! Did you not watch our videos demoing it? I thought we made it pretty clear on them that it is not like other guitar speakers and is very much a love or hate speaker - and to be honest, in the first videos we made with it we really didn't get it. Now we know how to use it we think it's incredible - for the right player and gear and music. Unfortunately because your cab is an Upsetter 112N I'm not sure it will fit any ceramic magnet 12" speakers in it, so the choice is limited to neo ones (or others with very shallow depth front to back). We only fit the Neo V-Type, Neo Creamback, BN12-300S and Neo 250 Copperback from the Celestion range.
Have you tried applying some speaker models or IRs to the Copperback? I know it's not FRFR but in some ways its more like that than its like typical guitar speakers.
Best regards,
Alex
