Barefaced Bass - Ultra lightweight high power bass guitar speaker cabinets

29/09/26 - Reformer 112 (Neo 250 Copperback) - Greece

The cabinet arrived, I found it very beautiful and well made, I really felt the quality job just by looking at it , the packaging was great and sturdy, in general the quality is awesome and just by looking at it for the first minutes I knew that I would buy again in the future other Barefaced products.

Unfortunately the sound is crappy (it is disgusting if I am being honest) and that's because of the Copperback (not your fault) ,I am not talking about the cleans, but about the distorted sounds, I don't think someone could stand them, unfortunately I did the research after I got the product and found out that this speaker is unsuitable for heavy distorted sounds (although there aren't many reviews on the internet, but there are few youtube clips and all of them show the same character of the speaker which is not good for distortion, and as someone said in the TDPR forum it is a fatiguing sound that comes out of the copperback). In choosing the copeerback, I mainly thought of the wattage thinking that my Quilter being 200 watts and the Copperback 250 would be the right choice, plus I thought a relatively uncoloured speaker would be more honest with the pedals .

Anyway, now I have already ordered the Redback which has great sound for heavy metal stuff, I read your guide about changing the guitar speaker and saw the video. Turns out I already have a pozidriv 2 screwdriver.

QUESTION: So the question is:  Will any foam tape do, to put at the new speaker to form a gasket, or should it be something you use ? And if it is the latter, then what kind of brand should it be ?

Thank you, waiting for your answer

Hi Niko,

We've done a lot of demo videos where we demo and discuss the Copperback. It is very different to other guitar speakers but if you do things differently it is very good at very distorted sounds, the key is how you shape your tone going into it. If you just plug in and use it expecting it to sound like other guitar speakers the bottom will sound very thin and the top will sound very harsh - which I'm sure is what you've found. You need to EQ after your drive. Or you can change the speaker!

We now use felt tape for our gaskets which is on the cab not the speaker, so swapping driver is very easy. But I think you'll be shocked at how good the Copperback can sound when you dial it in.

Best regards,

Alex
