Hi Barefaced team -
I have a Super Mini I got from you last year. I would like to use this powered 10" (Activier One10T) on its own and as a compliment to the 12" for gigs that require both. I use a Noble preamp/Di and so am likely to use a passive bass into the Noble and out to the powered 10. I would like to be able to add the 12" as needed for a portable stack. I use an Epifani Piccolo 350 with the Super Mini but think the powered 10 could replace this (so one less piece to carry).
That sound OK?

Hi,
I have been using a Two10 cab (no tweeter) with a 500 watt head. The cab is AWESOME, but the head recently died and I have to replace it. I am looking at an 800 watt head, but I am fearfull that I could break the cab with 800 watts. I do not use any pedals/effects, but I do use active basses, and will normally bump the bass control up. Is it a bad idea to use an 800 watt head with this cab?
I'm not sure you might be able to help, but figured there was no harm in asking?

I play through a Genz-Benz Streamliner 600 into a single One10CR. Utterly brilliant but I want to expand a little. I’m thinking of replacing my old-dodgy GK Fusion 800s with a new version for a punchy alternative amp. Shall I get a 2nd 10CR, a 10T, or move to one of your 12XR as a different style —OR not buy an amp at all but one of your powered cabs?? I now play a 5 String Overwater Progress IV in a 4-piece (2 acoustics/cajon/bass) Americana/Country/Rock/Blues/

I liked the punch, clarity and detail I had with the GK amp as an alternative. My playing is getting a bit more accurate, so perhaps that is starting to appeal.

Even though I pride myself in building my own speaker cabinets, YOLO so I bought a Barefaced Super Mini T. It's a single 600W 12" with an adjustable tweeter in a small ported cab with a "Top-Hat" hole for a speaker stand. I'm a bass player too and I've been following Barefaced for a while. These cabs are made in England and are rare in the US, but a bass buddy of mine has a super-twin that sounds great. I bought the smallest 12" cab they make, thinking I could double-duty it for steel and bass (not on the same gig though - I hope). Last night I played steel with a 11pc. pretty loud hard to describe "jazz-fusion" band. The cabinet was right behind me up on the drum riser. It sounded absolutely fantastic, and what's more amazing was that everyone in the band could hear me - everywhere on stage. I don't know how they got the dispersion to be as good as it is!
I had been using a 1501BW in a closed-back cab. With that, the mid-bump was hard to tame, I sounded a bit thin in the audience, and players on the other side of the stage had trouble hearing me. Not with the Barefaced.
It apparently made me play better too - I've never received so many high-fives after a show.
Here's a pic. I got a cheap tiny speaker stand to raise it up which give me a steel-heavy mix to stay in tune. Our sound guy calls it my "Texas in-ear monitor".
I know you guys are scientific (I am too), but you don’t post a lot of technical data about your speakers. I get why because if you give numbers, people throw them around and it gets in the way of Alex’s “just tell me if it’s working for you” mantra. But I have two numbers questions – you don’t have to answer them:
1). What is the efficiency (sensitivity) of the Super mini? The 1501-4BW is sort of a gold-standard in the PSG community, and the Super Mini T seems less efficient than the Peavey (98.8dB). My 200W amp was really cranked that night (that’s OK – power is cheap). I understand that “efficiency” isn’t really fair because the measurement is on-axis, plus midrange peaks may make the 1501 sound louder, especially parked behind me like it is. At the gig, the Peavey sounded louder (actually not better though!) but the rest of the band couldn’t hear me. This brings me to the dispersion question – obviously if the Super Mini T spreads the sound power around better than the Peavey, it would measure less efficient at 1m on-axis.
2). Do you have a polar plot of the SPL at like 1kHz? I am so amazed at the apparent dispersion – because everyone could hear me. I wouldn’t be amazed for bass so much, but for steel that’s really something. It’s sort of counter-intuitive because you just have a 12” driver in a square box and you think that would dictate the polar distribution. If your box was some weird-ass dodecahedron with reflectors or multiple drivers, that would be a different story.

The SMT is about 97dB sensitivity but that is indeed an on-axis measurement - the more directional a speaker the higher it'll measure on-axis but the less loud it'll sound in the room for everyone who's not in the exact right place.

We don't share our measurements, there's too many armchair non-engineers who'll jump to wrong conclusions. Like for like a 12" will have better dispersion than a 15". But both our 12XN and 10CR drivers are designed to have unusually wide dispersion thanks to the distribution of mass and flexibility across the radiating area of the cones. As you can hear, it makes a big difference! That's why we could go from a 3-way to a 2-way design for a high accuracy speaker after we developed the 12XN.
