For what it’s worth, this is a killer setup. Fantastic combination of lightweight gear and just sounds divine. I currently have 4 Barefaced cabs, with another trying to get through customs, and they all perform flawlessly. Looking forward to taking this out next week!!

28/05/25 - Big Baby 2 - UK

I own a Barefaced Big Baby 2 bass cabinet provided to me by a good friend. It has proved nothing short of excellent driven by an Eich T900 which is capable of giving 600W into the Big Baby 8ohms nominal resistance which is ample for pretty much any gig.
However, it is a bit ‘overkill’ for practice and rehearsal purposes.

I was thinking, therefore, of adding a Super Mini which when put with the Big Baby 2 would, with 4ohm resistance, make use of the Eich’s full power where necessary and provide a more portable cab for practice purposes etc.

I see from the information available on your website that you recommend pairing a Super Mini cab and a Big Baby 3, so my initial query is; will the Super Mini work as well with the Big Baby 2?

Hi Mike,

Great to hear!

Yes, the SM or SMT will work very well with the BB2.

Hi Guys,

I hope you are well, I have had my Super Twin for about 10 years now.

Had some issues on Saturday night at my gig with regard to the sound popping when hitting certain notes which when tested turned out to be something in the signal chain rather than the cab.

But this got me thinking, does my cab need to be serviced? It's been heavily gigged and toured but has never given me any problems apart from an over enthusiastic stage hand loading in and knocked the cab over onto its back, resulting in a high frequency from the Tweeter for about 20secs pre gig which has never returned. That was 7 years ago.

If you could let me know because its been the best and most reliable piece of equipment I have ever owned, and I want it to continue to be for many years yet.

Many thanks
Craig

Hi Craig,

There isn't really any servicing you can do with a speaker cab - it's either working fine or its broken! If it's broken then often it can be fixed but there aren't any wear items etc.
We do try to build everything to last for as long as possible!

Best regards,

Alex

I just received my Super Mini , it sounds incredible. almost supernatural, how much bass comes out of such a small enclosure.

Thank you so much 🙏 🎶

26/05/25 - Three10 - UK

Hi guys, just wanted to give an update on my custom Three10 I ordered from you last year.

It is an incredible cab... traditional but with extra clarity and character. I've been driving it with an either an Aguilar TH500 or AG700 depending on the band I'm playing with and it always delivers in spades... motown, funk, rock, metal; fingers, slap, pick, roundwounds, flatwounds, fretted, fretless... it just WORKS. It was used as a backline cab for several bands at a festival yesterday and it made one bass player's 200w microhead sound MASSIVE.

I can say hand-on-heart it's the best cab I've ever owned and I look forward to getting a One10 in the future.

All the best
Bob

Thanks,
Rob

20/05/25 - Two10 - France

Thanks again for the fast delivery, Premium Quality work

I had the BB2 Gen 3, now I have the Two10; two different worlds

But definitely above the others :
Efficiency (SPL, this is what I call powerfully)
Diffusion (wide)
Transient response
Sound signature: musical I the lows, low mids, high mids , trebles (far enough even without tweeter)
Sealed and ported, best of both worlds
Style and design signature

My config: D800+ PB’62 + TI jazz flats and effectrode PC2A (tube compression)

I should have  bought BAREFACED already 20 years ago

Merci beaucoup

18/05/25 - Super Twelve (Super Twin) - UK

Hi I am the owner of a Barefaced 2x12 non-tweeter cab. Described by me as the best cab I have ever owned. I am no longer playing large venues and have downsized to a Barefaced Midget which is ideal for the smaller venues that I now play.

A buyer for the 2x12 cab has asked if it is 8 or 4 ohm and I cannot remember the spec. Can you assist in stating the correct rating. I have owned the cab for approx 10 years and include a picture.

Thanks in advance.

Eddie

Hi Eddie,

That's a Super Twelve. 4 ohm. ~1000W. Glad it's done so well for you, ask its new owner to let us know how they like it!

Best regards,

Alex

Was asked to drop you a message after buying a 2nd hand Barefaced 212 cab from a member on Basschat last night.

The seller set it up flat with a TC Staccato head. First thing was it was so blooming loud even with a reasonably low master setting.

2nd thing that hit me was how even the tone was. It was warm and deep but with amazing clarity. No boom, no shrilling high end, just an even tone across the board.

3rd thing which was one of the main reasons I was looking at BF cabs was that no matter where I stood, in front, the side or even leaning over it i could hear this cab the exact same as if standing directly in front of it. Not sure i've ever experienced that with a cab before.

4th point was the weight. My current Mesa SW210/115 cabs are lightweight but I could lift this cab one handed to chest height. My head was asking questions like "How can a cab this light with only 30cm depth be so deep and warm sounding ?"

Got the cab home and was able to crank it a little bit more (detached house in countryside) and everything sounded the exact same at higher volumes apart from everything rattling in the room. Boosted the bass levels on the active Sandberg VM4 to max and WOW it just got better and better. (I normally run amps and bass EQ almost flat with some slight tweaks for different venues)

I normally use either my Mesa TT800 or Handbox WB-100 heads depending how i feel. Leaning more towards the HB all valve head at the moment and I reckon the 212 cab will sound gorgeous with this head. I can seriously say I'm a convert to BF cabs. I bought 2nd hand just in case it wasn't for me but I can see why these cabs are so popular. I will be leaving a review or NCD post on Basschat at some point probably after the gig on Sat.

Hope this helps

Dave

18/05/25 - Reformer 112 - USA

Hey there,

I have a Reformer and love it.  I don’t have an open-back to compare it to, but it certainly seems like an “open-back without the loss of lows”, so kudos!

Where it gets interesting is comparing it against my Mesa Recto 2x12. Which is somewhat apples vs oranges, but hear me out :)

I took one of the Mesa’s speakers (both original V30s from ~2000 and sound very similar to each other) and moved it into the Reformer.  The remaining original stayed in the Mesa alongside a rotating speaker du jour.

The Mesa 2x12 jacks were separated so I can plug into only the V30.  The other non-powered speaker  becomes a passive radiator, and the active V30 likely sees less resistance/damping (than it would have with both speakers active in the same closed 2x12).

Both cabs (Reformer and Mesa) are adjacent, on the floor, and angled.  Trying to keep conditions similar.

As expected, the Reformer sounds more open and balanced.  For clean tones, lead tones, and many other scenarios, I’d say the Reformer wins!

The Mesa has pronounced lows, and less mids.  But when playing high-gain (hard rock levels, think Tool or Alice In Chains), it sounds glorious.  Specifically when playing rhythm, and especially when palm muting, I’d say the Mesa wins!

So I’m trying to determine the differences and if I can get the Reformer to match/best the Mesa in this scenario.

Tried using EQ to make the Reformer sound more like the Mesa.  Using the 5-band GEQ on my Mark IV head.. e.g boost some lows, cut some mids.  Sounding great no matter what, but different… feeling.

Listening closer, I realized a couple things: The Mesa is “tighter”, and there is some kind of dynamic eq/bloom thing going on that is especially noticeable with: high gain, hard pick attack, palm muted chord.

I suspect “tighter” is coming from the damping of being a sealed cab, i.e. the air-spring pressure resisting the speaker movement.

I’m guessing the “bloom” thing is related to that as well.  That damping is likely uneven across frequencies.  I vaguely recall a speaker “impedance curve”, but not sure if that’s supposed to be more electrical vs mechanical etc.

I know the AVD is a port of sorts, and allegedly the speaker should still “see” a closed cab above an octave of the port tuning (or something like that), but it seems like it’s “breathing free”.  Which in many ways is a good thing.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this!

I wonder if it would be possible to make an AVD/closed “convertible” cab.  Close the back/AVD for the full “closed-back” experience. Just need access to the jack :)

Can Barefaced make a (non-AVD) closed-back cab?  The customizations page mentions an Upsizing 212BB where the (divided) bottom is closed-back but with port(s)?  The same page also mentions the ability to plug port(s) for lower tunings.  I’m curious if ports, like the AVD, would result in the loss of “tightness” of a fully closed/sealed enclosure.

Matt

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the feedback. The thing is, with you only using one of the speakers in the Mesa 212, you have a cab that doesn't behave at all like a closed-back 112, it's far more like an oversized ported cab. If you want to compare the two you'd need to block off half of the 212 internally, or find a way to absorb/block all the sonic output from the second 12" but have it connected so the first 12" is only using half the air space.

Best regards,

Alex

17/05/25 - One10T - USA

My cabinet showed up today!  I’ve only played with it for a few minutes, but this thing is amazing!

Thank you for all of your help during the delivery process.

After I break it in for a few hours, I’ll write up a glowing review of this cab.  I had high hopes of this One10T cab, and so far this thing has beat my expectations.

You guys rock, thanks agin.
Neil
