Activier - 200W amp module for AVD cabs and One10(T)
Regular price
£499.00
NEW! The Activier has proven to be so potent and cool-running that we can now fit it to our One10 or One10T bass cabs. It requires a unique enclosure so as with the guitar cabs, it can't be retrofitted.
If you're confused by the extra toggle switches you may have seen on some Activiers out in the wild, they replace the HF control knob on the back of a Reality 112FR or One10T, giving four simple settings of loudness for the rear tweeter on the Reality or the front tweeter on the One10T.
Want your new AVD cab to have its own amp built in? Have the choice of using it with any valve amp or running straight from your pedalboard? Mono or stereo? 200W RMS per channel into 4 ohms for max SPL or hold it back to 50W into 16 ohms for safe use with speakers rated as low as 20W.
You lucky lucky guitarists! We might have started working on the electronics for our first bass amp in 2017 but the skinny stringers are the first to get a Barefaced amp product! We've combined a really nice preamp design which is super clean and accurate with a crazy efficient amp module. This miracle of tone (or maybe absence of tone?) and power has been squeezed into a tiny package that fits into every single AVD guitar cab we make, right from the tiny Upsetter 110 to the bassist-scaring Upsizing 215.
There are two choices for the Activier - the 1 (single channel, i.e. mono), and the 2 (dual channel, i.e. stereo). The Activier 1 has a single input, single gain knob, and single external speakon for an extension speaker. The Activier 2 has two inputs, two gain knobs and two external speakons. Logical!
Although the preamp may appear very simple (it's just one jack and one knob per channel!) it's actually rather clever. Although we expect 99.9% of you to plug a pedalboard, modeller or other bit of outboard kit into the Activier, you can actually plug your guitar straight in without suffering tone suck or noise. And that one knob controls a preamp which can reduce the signal down to zero (minus infinity dB gain) or increase the level by 30dB (which is a lot!)
The standard configuration for an Activier cab is that we connect the power amp to the speaker internally, just like in many combos. But if you want even more flexibility you can choose "With speaker inputs", so we also install our usual rear dish/inputs and provide a jumper lead to go between the Activier's external speaker out and the passive inputs. Yes, this one cab can be both your active modeling solution for super convenient gigging and also the studio tone monster with your beloved tube amp!
The Activier 2 can be fitted to any of our AVD cabs, you don't need to choose a two speaker model. If it's fitted to a single driver cab like a Reformer 112, Channel 2 is not wired internally but sends signal to Speaker Output 2 for you to connect another cab - so you have a stereo set-up with the Activier cab as your master, and any other cab as your slave. And with the Activier 2 module, if you only plug something into Input 1, Channel 2 is automatically slaved from that signal. Plug into Input 2 and then it drives Channel 2 separately. You can even choose to have a dual driver Barefaced AVD cab fitted with an Activier 2 but still wired mono, keeping the second channel for your slave cab.
And as with all of our cabs, you can choose from a cornucopia of different guitar drivers to suit your tonal and loudness needs.
Power? 200W per channel into 4 ohms, 100W/ch into 8, 50W/ch into 16. We'll work with you on choosing the right driver and the best impedance for that driver to give you the amp output/headroom you need while minimising the risk of blowing things up on a loud gig (it's far less of an issue than with valve amps).
Weight:
Activier 1 = 694g / 1.5lbs
Activier 2 = 775g / 1.7lbs
Weight increase for Activier 2 vs passive AVD guitar cab = 600g / 1.3lbs
(Standard guitar backplate weight = 175g / 0.4lbs)

Hi Alex,
at the weekend, I played with the band in a small venue. The Reality Cabinet really worked extremely good. That’s where it really shows off its full potential. It felt like a friend on stage right from the very first moment. Because of the tight space, I had to place it to my front-left, and in terms of sound, that wouldn’t have been possible with any other cabinet. So cool. That was also the moment when the rest of the band were won over by Barefaced.
There was no sign of overemphasised frequencies in that environment. My guess is that the dynamics of the Reality are so much clearer than with other cabinets that the room’s beat frequency is addressed much stronger. And that this frequency is ‘charged up’ overall. Very interesting.
Thx and regards
Volker

Hi Volker,
That's great to hear!
If I were you I'd go for a dual AVD Radical 212H with 65 Heritage speakers.
Here's the Dual AVD customisation option:

it’s here (safe & sound) and it’s good - and when I say good, I mean REALLY GOOD!
It keeps its promise. I'm as happy as a child!
Thanks for your kind support. Greetings to the team - have a nice weekend.

I've been using the reality for some time now and the truth is I'm very happy with it. I have used it in several gigs with my mood dwarf pedal with amp and cabin simulation. The cab sounds great with a lot of dynamics and accuracy in response.

Dear Alex, Isaac, and The Barefaced Team!
I received the One10T active last week.
I was disappointed for the first five minutes, but then the round, powerful, three-dimensional sound came through. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the information from the instruction manual on the Barefaced website beforehand.
“Your cab has a high-power driver that takes time to loosen up. It will get deeper, fatter, smoother, and cleaner sounding after some loud use.”
The sound is also wonderful in a band context.
I think there will soon be an expansion with one of your 12XN bass cabs.
And by the way, the One10T looks great too.
Thank you very much, and continued success.
One more question: Can I combine the One10T with my Markbass CMB 150 Black Line? And if so, what cable do I need?
Matthias
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Matthias,
You can use your Markbass combo with the Activier if you go via the Markbass amp and take cable from the FX send to the Activier. Or if there's a speaker input socket on the combo you can use the Activier to drive the combo's internal speaker. What were you planning to pair them for?
Best regards,
Alex
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Alex, thank you very much for your reply.
I'm not a very experienced bass player yet, so I want to try out all the combinations I can - there was no particular reason. As a result, I can tell you that the combination doesn't work well. I'll use both cabs solo, and as I said, the Activier One 10T is fantastic.
However, I'm sure I'll want to buy a Super Mini T soon, not because I need more power at the moment, but simply to try out different cabs and have expansion options if necessary.
Best regards and continued success.
Matthias

I have three Barefaced audio cabs. The Activier FRFR 1x12, the Radical 212H, and the Upsizing 1215. They are all absolutely my favourite and amazing. See this though, makes me wish I had the Activier on my 212H. Even with the V30s it is outrageously light. These are worth every penny.

I’m so sorry but I’m afraid the Activier isn’t going to work for me.
Unfortunately I cannot get to the volume I need without a second cabinet which sadly was not the goal.
Richard

Hi Richard,
Not a problem! How loud a situation did you find it working well in and when did it max out for you? How was it loudness-wise when using a second cab (was that the Super Twin)? It all helps us advise future customers on what this little active cab can do (and what it can't!)
Best regards,
Alex
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Alex
Hi Richard,
That makes total sense to me! It's quite funny how the Activier One10T has developed, because I designed the 10CR speaker for the the Six10 and then it's accompanying Two10. Quite a lot of people had to persuade me to make the One10 but I'm glad they did because it's proven very popular and plenty loud enough for a surprising amount of bassists. And the One10 didn't have a tweeter option until recently, because the 10CR goes high on its own and its meant to be more coloured sounding anyway - but people kept asking so we tried it and it worked much better than I was expecting. The Activier was designed for guitar, not bass, but again someone wanted an active version of the One10T so we made one and it was way better than I was expecting, much more capable!
I've rehearsed with an Activier One10T (bass, drums, vocals, no guitarists) and it's not loud enough for me - it worked but only by virtue of the loudest moments also involving lots of distortion which blended nicely with the sound of the 10CR overdriving. But I do play really loud! ;-)
We're actually doing an Activier Two10ST for someone at the moment, and I know we've got people gigging with an Activier driving two or three One10 cabs in (moderately loud) rock bands. But there's more powerful active stuff in the works...
Best regards,
Alex

Hi Alex,
Thoroughly enjoying the Reality!
I am now considering a Reformer with a guitar driver for two jobs: to act as a second cab powered by the Activier (with signal routing so the IR/Cab sim is bypassed for the second input etc), and as a main speaker for a 100w guitar amp. I am thinking of the Celestion Redback, because of the power handling and because I prefer a darker sound.
My existing cab, Orange 1x12 with V30 has some harsh high mid frequencies (I think) that I just can't dial out and have the tone that I like. I have watched your YT vids on the Redback, and I do like the sound.
Main types of tones are clean/teensiest edge of breakup to higher gain rock.
Just wanted to check if you think the Reformer with Redback suits the bill? Can you build this as an 8 ohm driver as well?
Thanks!
Jules
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Jules,
Glad you're enjoying the Reality!
This sounds like a great plan!
We're big fans of the Redback - I think it's one of those drivers that sounds MILES better in an AVD cab because the big voice coil and stiffer cone (for the high power handling) give it narrower dispersion in a normal cab. The AVD fixes that and lets it really sing in the mids.
Best regards,
Alex

The cab was absolutely outstanding on the road. I have been happy with it for home use for a while, but getting it up to gig volume in medium sized rooms was a revelation. The uniformity of the sound at different points in the room is an absolute gamechanger, and the clarity and accuracy is a league above my previous cab. Everyone we showed it to was blown away and I'd like another passive unit to complete a stereo rig.

I'm intrigued by the Activier cab for bass although my barefaced cab is still making me money. Just wanted to know if I can slave my one can I have in with the Active one?
As you know I love my cab and wouldn't trade it for anything. I recently found out there's someone else in New Orleans with a cab. Minus the white Snakeskin of course.
Thanks
Robert

Hi Robert,
Yes, the Activier One10 can drive up to two passive One10s! Glad you're still loving yours!

I just received the Reality and have to tell you that after trying a little bit I'm amazed by the clarity and dynamics of cabinet. I like it very much and it's very quiet something I also appreciate a lot.
Today I'm taking it to my first gig so I'll see how it behaves in a stage.
I'll let you know how it goes
Thank you very much

I have had mine (two amp version) for a few weeks now. It is mind blowing how good it is. Even had the drummer in my band saying how good it sounds!

Hi Alex,
Hi David,
A medium-sized hall and a ridiculously loud guitarist is an impossible job for a single One10 (and for most non-Barefaced cabs two or three times as large). Adding a second One10 or a Two10S will help a lot!
Best regards,
Alex

Hello, I'm currently using a One10(T) with my double bass, it's super good.
Usually with either a Acoustic Image Clarus SL or EBS Reidmar 502 amp. Before the amp, I am also using a pre-amp from EBS called "Stanley Clark Signature". This preamp is amazing for double bass and there is really no need to do anything to the signal after the pre-amp. Now I have got the attention of your new active One10.
If I understand correctly, with the active One10 I wouldn't need any amp, just plug my preamp directly to the speaker, is that correct? Also it would be possible to use my old One10(T) with an Active 2 One10(T) as a PA. I realise there is one issue with my current One10, I never added a top hat mount. Do you think it would be possible for me to add a top hat mount myself?
Cheers,
Joakim

Well, my friends, you f*%king did it! I’ve installed the new Activier module today, and am very happy to report that your new design has essentially solved the EMI problem! The unit is now quite amazingly quiet, as you have proudly and rightly advertised.
EMI is gone, and the hiss is much much lower - overall, this is a much improved circuit layout if you ask me.
I would like to thank you for sticking with me as we worked together to improve the situation. You took me seriously and I’d like to think I did my part in providing good, actionable data.
How this was handled speaks quite a lot to your values as a company and something I will be sure to trumpet to those who ask my opinion. This Reality with Activier, I believe, is such a fantastic solution for us guitar modeling enthusiasts. I’ve played the Fender FR-12, which seems to be the king in everybody’s mind, and this one is just better all around. It’s a great bit of engineering, and the cabinet design itself has always been a game changer for me.
I believe that for the first time since I bought this product way back when, I’m truly experiencing what you want me to experience.
Thanks again to everyone at Barefaced, and please be sure that others on the team see this email. You've made my day.

Hi,
Had a few weeks now and it’s a great little cab. A couple of quick questions.
1)The wattage on the back of the cab says 250W but the spec sheet online says 200W (and 150W into the 8ohm one10) Which is correct?
2) Can you give me a guess on wattage into 4 ohms total (one extra one10T cab) and the wattage with a 2.76 load?
I don’t use any distortion effects pedals, just a compressor and the Nordstrand Starlifter DI and Preamp which offers tons of gain. Any tips on do’s and don’ts as far as pre amp volume settings into the Activier goes?
Thanks,
Randy

If you are on the fence about getting a powered One10, hop off quick! You love your One10 already, get them a powered buddy! My stereo One10 KILLED (with the help of my Two10) at our outdoor park gig yesterday.

Hi guys,
I received the [Activier] One10T and it sounds great. I tried it up against a fender rumble and 4x10 I was using in a rehearsal space. It was so much more defined, especially all through the mids section (precision bass with flats)
I found another use for it you may be interested to hear about. I got some bookshelf speakers (Kanto Ora) for home use and they have a subwoofer out with crossover. I hooked up the One10T (single RCA to 1/4”) and adjusted the volume to taste, perfect. So much better than buying a subwoofer. No phase issues.
Now I can put my One10T to work when I’m not gigging.
Thanks
Dominic
