Barefaced Bass - Ultra lightweight high power bass guitar speaker cabinets

Customer Feedback

6/11/22 - FR800 x2 PA system - UK

Discontinued models

We've now used the above for 3 or 4 gigs and are blown away by the difference in our sound. Everything is so much clearer and crisper & the overall sound is much fuller & better defined.

This has been commented on by people who have seen us with the previous rig & made the same remarks. It is also a pleasure setting up as we are no longer carrying heavy bass bins about - my back is especially pleased. It also gives us chance to put a little bass into the front end so it's not overpowering the back lone

I notice on the back of the speakers there are two XLR sockets marked:
AES Through
AES input
Grateful you let me know what these are for.

Hope this input is useful, even though the speakers are now discontinued.

Keep up the good work.
Geoff

Alex responds: Glad they're sounding great! The AES sockets are for digital rather than analogue in/out. We've never used them but Hypex stopped selling the plate amp without them so they're on all the later FR800s.

31/10/22 - One10 pair (one old grill, one new grill, hence the unusual look!) - UK

Yes they sound great, just the look which is a little unusual :)

Cheers

Great cab by the way, it roars in a live setting. I have had complements at gigs from sound engineers about how big the tone is. A better endorsement of tone than a youtube video!

Kind regards,

Tom

28/9/22 - Big Baby 2 dual cab stack - UK

I have a couple of Big Baby II cabs that I normally use for bass but I'd like to also use them as a PA for a friend's swing band.

Is there any bracing that I would need to avoid if installing top hats?

Thanks in advance

Dave

Alex responds: You'd need to reinforce the base panel on the inside, so it's 18mm thick minimum, and mount the top hats with bolts and t-nuts, not wood screws. It's a fair bit of work to do well but not that complicated - grill off, speakers out, insulation out in places (you'll need to make sure no sawdust gets left behind stuck in the insulation), cut an internal reinforcement to fit neatly between the spine braces, glue it in solidly and then the four bolt holes and top hat hole through the lot, fit t-nuts and use silicone to make sure there are no air leaks past the top hat before bolting it in place. They do make great PA speakers!

Thankyou for that Alex.

Much more helpful than I could have hoped for.
A nice little project for me.
As you already know, your cabs are miraculous.

Regards

Dave

27/10/22 - Super Twin - USA

I wanted to take a moment and just say a huge THANK YOU to you and your crew for making such an incredible cabinet! The Super Twin coupled with my Bergantino Forté HP is a match made in heaven.

I’ve only had a chance to play it in a small handful of venues so far, but my band mates and the sound crews and audience members have been commenting on how great it sounds and each time i plug in and play, i get even more enjoyment from being able to hear myself with great depth and clarity. My Serek Midwestern, Serek Sacramento and a Warmoth ‘54 P-bass all respond incredibly well with this rig. It’s also great to be able to make only 1 or 2 trips into a venue rather than multiples and i don’t have to worry about hurting my back moving it around.

Thank you again! Take care,

Djim Reynolds

I just received my Radical 212 about a week ago. Loving it so far.

Thanks,

22/10/22 - Radical 212H - USA

I just received my Radical 212 about a week ago. Loving it so far. I’ve seen that recently Celestion updated their Vintage 30 design to have transparent dust covers and have seen videos online showing an audible difference in sound to the previous models. (For the better I think.) Does my Radical 212 have this newer version of the Vintage 30?

Thanks,

Bradley

Alex says:

Hi Brad,

I asked Celestion about this because I've never noticed a change in the dust cap in the time we've been fitting V30s to cabs. Here's what they said:

"Please rest assured that nothing has changed recently on the Vintage 30.

This video that is going viral demonstrates that the product now is much better than what was being produced in 2006. (16 years ago)

That is a fact, but it’s not down to the dust cap. We always reserve the right to make improvements to products that are already in production.

In this case, here’s proof that a bunch of small tweaks and better build consistency over a period of time have made a great product even better."

Glad you're loving your new cab - spread the word!

19/10/22 - Super Twin - UK

It's far and away the best cab I have ever owned! There are already a few bass players in Kent who have purchased from you after hearing mine, and I will certainly spread to guitar players as well.

Best wishes

Mark

BTW., can I also say how completely delighted I am with my cabs.  It is such a rare thing when reality lives up to expectations but your cabs certainly do. They are everything your said they were but that doesn’t quite capture the feeling, the satisfaction, of playing thru the cabs – simply a different world !!!

7/10/22 - Big Baby 3 - USA

The BIG baby arrived today, it is great — and light enough to use in place of the 10T (still waiting for a driver).

The low (and mid) end is already lovely and just started breaking it in.

Thanks to everyone involved!

Sean

I tried the thing last night with a VHT CL 100.

WHEW! Just killer!!!

To solve the “problem” I’m thinking about ordering two 8 ohm 1x12 cabs. Once my wallet recovers a bit.

That would allow 8 and 4 ohm operation…yes?

Thanks for your help and a great cabinet.

Crisis averted…

5/10/22 - FR800 (pair) - UK

I use them mostly as PA cabs and on occasion as a bass amp fed by a pre amp pedal, which always sounds really nice, but I'd like to try them with one of my bass amps too.

They're so versatile and always sound great :)

Cheers Alex
