We believe this is the most significant guitar cab launched since the original Marshall 4x12”. A bold claim indeed!

But listening is believing - the revolutionary patented AVD enclosure lets you hear the true sound from the speaker, uncluttered by internal reflections or cancellations like traditional closed or open-backed cabs. And from the back of the cab the AVD does even more, filling the room with yet more natural tone.

We may have transformed the cabinet itself with our unique Barefaced AVD design but we refuse to discard the loudspeaker heritage that’s the basis of most great guitar sounds - electric guitars need that tonal shaping, character and vibe which comes from the inherent sonic colour of classic speaker designs. The Reformer 112 has an iconic Celestion Vintage 30 12" 60W loudspeaker as standard and more cosmetic choices. And if the Vintage 30 isn’t your ideal sound, you can have any Celestion guitar 12” as a customisation, including all the Alnico models.

We now also offer a custom 1x10" version of this cab, the Reformer 110W - for guitarists who want the tone of a 10" but in a larger enclosure than our Upsetter 110. Also, if you want a wider/larger 1x12" guitar cab, we now have the Usurper 112W and the Radical 112SW custom models to choose from, which are the same sizes as our 2x10" and 2x12" models respectively.

This 1x12” cab has as big a sound as 2x12" cabs loaded with similar speakers because the AVD uses both sides of the cone, front and back, to fill the room with tone. Despite the massive sound the weight is absolutely not massive - thanks to our unique design and construction methods this is the lightest gig-tough 12” guitar enclosure ever made!

Questions

Traditional guitar loudspeaker designs.

There are basically two sorts - closed-back and open-backed. Open-backed because they were combos and needed to keep the valves cool and accessible for servicing, closed-back and sealed because that’s how most speakers were made in the 1960s.

How does that affect using them?

The closed-back cabs have narrowing dispersion as frequency increases (a hi-fi speaker uses smaller speakers for higher frequencies to reduce this problem). The open-backed cabs fire sound out of the back as well as the front, so although the dispersion narrows from both front and back in much the same way as the closed-back cab, the sound coming out of the back helps fill the room with mids and highs - but that sound out of the back cancels out most of the lows (due to the inverted phase as the back of the speaker pulls when the front pushes and vice versa). In other words, open-back cabs are easier to hear around the room but the lows are thinner.

How is the Reformer 112 different?

From the front it behaves much like a closed or open-backed cab. But the mids and highs coming out of the AVD at the back are amplified and dispersed around the room whilst the lows are inverted to match the lows from the front, giving lots more bottom. Basically you get twice the output of a closed back cab with an identical speaker AND even better dispersion and audibility (and far far greater output) than an open-backed cab.

What is AVD?

You see it when you look at the back of the cab - it’s the Augmented Vent Diffractor. It’s a unique patented technology that we started developing back in 2013. At low frequencies it acts as a tuned vent or Helmholtz resonator, improving efficiency, power handling and output. At mid and high frequencies it acts to diffract, disperse and couple the sound with the room for improved audibility and output especially in rooms with poor acoustics.

What is the Lo Cut filter for?

The increased low frequency output from the AVD may be too much for some guitarists’ tastes - so you can flick this switch and remove lows at the cab. Doing so not only changes the bass response but also increases the power handling of the cab, lowers the distortion due to motor excursion and reduces the load on your amp’s output stage. This can give you two different sweet-spots of optimum speaker overdrive or break-up and two different sweet-spots of power valve overdrive. If your sound is perfect in rehearsal but too dirty at a louder gig then engaging the Lo Cut filer will clean it up.

New amp and new cab. I’m loving it. This outdoor gig did have me wondering though: the concept of the AVD is to couple the cab with the room acoustics (at least for the mids and highs, as I understand it).

So does an outdoor stage negate that? There was a wooden fence behind us so that probably helped but what if there was nothing behind me?

The Reformer is sounding wonderful - favourite cab I have, and the fact that it's a joy to carry to / from gigs is the icing on the cake! :-)

29/05/26 - Activier Reformer - YouTube

I have 2 Barefaced Reformer cabs, 1 with a Stereo Activier. Expensive, but among the best gear I ever bought.

With many other parts of the chain - guitars, pedals, amps - there are so many great choices and it's hard to say which is really better than the other (and a lot of it is subjective obviously). But a Barefaced cab makes such a significant difference vis-a-vis every other cab, it's unreal.

I recommend them to everyone I know that ever even went near a guitar.  I wish you guys drown in business! And I will order many more cabs in the future. I need a 2x10, maybe even a 4x10? And some day some bass cabs as well!

(To be fair: Kammler cabs come close, but they were much more expensive, much heavier, and they are not being produced anymore!)

27/05/25 - Usurper 112W (Cream) / Reformer 112 (G12-H75 Creamback)

I am looking for some guidance on what bass cab might suit a fairly unique two amp setup.

I am building a "guitarviol" essentially a modern electric version of the arpeggione. It's tuned the same as a guitar but strung with custom cello strings and has a bridge radius similar to a double bass so it can be played with a bow. It has RMC piezo bridge saddles running through their polydrive ii preamp.

I have a two amp setup.

A fender deluxe reverb head into a barefaced usurper cab loaded with a celestion alnico cream and a barefaced reformer loaded with a celestion creamback 75.

A fender super bassman - no cab for this yet and was considering one of the following:
Super 24

Two10ST

Four10T

Love the two guitar cabs I have from you already and looking forward to your thoughts on what might suit this unusual setup.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi Tim,

This sounds very cool!

My inclination is towards a Four10 (no tweeter) - I think with a bowed electric with piezos you'll benefit from the extra warmth of the 10CR drivers and I can't see a tweeter adding anything good when you've got the guitar rig to do the highs.

Best regards,

Alex

Just took delivery of this and I'm already slightly in love... A/B'd it with the Vox cab, which always sounded pretty good to my ears, but the Reformer takes things to another level - reverbs especially sound bigger, but clearer to my ears. This isn't my usual set up, a friend lent me the QC, but this makes it sound pretty awesome. Big gig this weekend in Borne Sulinowo (is this the first Barefaced in Poland?), so it will get its "chrzest bojowy" or "battle christening" as they call it here... 🙂 brilliant, friendly service from the Barefaced people. Happy to be joining the family 🙂

Here's a shot of the cab in action at rehearsal, I love that I can move around and my sound scarcely changes:

Hello dear Barefaced-team,

First of all: I use your Barefaced Reformer with a V30 and I am very happy with the sound.

I have two questions:

I use 1/4" jack cables and both inputs on my cabinet are worn out. I know how to solder and I'd like to replace the inputs with identical parts. Is «Neutrik NLJ2MDXX-V» the part you use?

Also, can you tell by the age of my cabinet, if a Celestion Alnico would fit? The S/N is G208V. I read on your site that newer Reformer models accept a variety of Celestions.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks for your help in this matter!

Best regards from Germany,

James Chan-A-Sue

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi James,

Are you sure both inputs are worn out? That's something that almost never happens. Your cab won't fit an alnico speaker, it'll fit any ferrite or neo Celestion though. That is the correct part though. Are you sure the cables aren't faulty?

Best regards,

Alex

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your swift reply! I'm the second owner of the cabinet. My guess is the guy who played it before me didn't use proper speaker cables. Hot cables probably widened the sockets. The plastic isn't melted but the jacks do wiggle around too much.

I'm using speaker cables from Orange… So, THANK YOU for the info. Now I can replace the parts.

Also: Keep up the great work! Apart from the cabinet, I very much enjoy your YouTube channel.

Best regards,

James Chan-A-Sue

Great cabs. I have a Reformer 112. No not cheap but, my back is very grateful. I'm using this over my 2x12 🤘😃

20/12/25 - Reformer 112 - UK

I need some help/advice for my next Barefaced cabinet... I've been using a Reformer for the last year now - and it gigs great. But, I can't help feeling an Uprising 212V would just push a bit more air on stage.

I don't want to go any bigger as portability is also key. I'm also wondering if I should pair a V30 with a Creamback H75? I had also left a comment a while back on one of your YouTube videos - about demonstrating your cabs with a 'proper' rock sound - I play a Les Paul and a P90 as well as an EVH. Mostly through a Tonex with models for Marshall's, EVH and Matchless. I'm thinking/wondering if there's some scope for a new demo to illustrate best/alternate setups for gigging rock guitarists?

John

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi John,

I agree that we need to do some more classic rock guitar demo videos. We definitely noticed some satisfying sonic effects with mixed driver set-ups to get a bigger sound. Glad the Reformer has been doing well!

Best regards,

Alex

I have a 12" Reformer cab - green/silver. I am sleeving a valve amp head, and would like to get some green Tolex and silver grille cloth to cover the head to match the cab.

Can you either supply the small quantity required or advise on any supplier(s) who could provide a match?

Many thanks,

Ray

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Ray,

Sounds like it'll look great - I'll put together a price once we have some measurements from you! (Don't forget the amount you'll need to wrap/overlap etc). Hope the cab is sounding good!

Best regards,

Alex

The cab is excellent - it will be my default hence the idea to match it on the head if possible. Head is from Synergy SYN30-C combo which weighs 48lbs!

Fantastic cabs. I own the Reformer 1x12 fitted with a Vintage 30.

Bought it as my Zilla 2x12 was getting a bit much for the old back, best buy i've ever made. Not cheap but nice and light and sounds awesome.

Alls I know: Once my AlNiCo Cream 90's broke in, my Reformer cabs got even better! I didn't think they could get any better, but like fine wine...

30/10/25 - Reformer 112 (G12T-75) - UK

I have been using two Reformer 112 cabs with Celestion G12T-75's since May 2025. (I got these to replace my two Marshall 1922 cabs).

I just wanted to say what a revelation this has been. The sound is more clearer and has more clarity with the highs and lows. Members of the band say they can now hear me on the other side of the stage. They have all complimented on the sound that I am now getting from the new cabs. They are half the weight of my previous ones. I can't say how much this has greatly improved my physical and mental well being after a late night gig. At my age you need all the help you can get.

I was sceptical about buying but so glad I made the move.

Thank you Barefaced,

Pete

Currently I am playing through an Orange 212 open back and a Reformer 112 with a V30 (amazing product by the way, that Helmholtz resonator concept is ingenious!)
