The best of Celestion's guitar speakers are available to customise the sound of your Barefaced AVD cab. Add your cab to the cart on the relevant product page and then add the speaker here. The price you see here is the cost we charge to replace the stock Vintage 30 with this custom driver.
If you're ordering a 2x12" or two 1x12" cabs, don't forget to add two drivers! If you only want one custom driver and one stock driver in a 2x12" or two different custom drivers, please email us to explain where to put each driver (top or bottom, left or right). We'll fit the impedance stated in your cab order. Email us if you're confused!
Celestion G12-65 Heritage
Originally created in the late 70s using more modern materials and techniques for a higher power handling, the G12-65 is widely regarded as one of the best guitar speakers ever produced for use in a 4x12 cabinet. With its fast attack and tightly controlled low end, the G12-65 had become a firm favourite with hard rock players by the early 80s. The precisely tuned mid-range and crisp defined top-end contribute to an aggressive crunch sound that punches through the mix while the mid-range warmth and detail give weight and depth to single notes.

Hi Alex,
This email is coming to you a LONG TIME in the FUTURE to this thread! I was looking through my email for something else and I realised back in 2024 I had sent you a long response to this thread but (probably on a lot of back medication back then, as I had that surgery) I noticed I had sent the email to my friend instead of you! I can't explain why I would have done that, other than meds at the time.
In summary, the combination of the Mesa Mark VII and the low-cut switch on the back of this amazing, amazing cabinet was always the right combination for this amp. It has been the most impressive performer and several of the professional musicians who have played at home home over the last two years are actually still talking about this today. One of them is planning on buying this cabinet for gigs and for his music school, though I know there are many more options now.
In other news, I've been rearranging my home studio and looking at my two bass cabinets (a babyface and a smaller one stacked on it), big M9 Carbine head teetering precariously above, with a Subway D800 on top of that. What doesn't look right about it is I should just buy more cabinets for my bass. I don't need them. I want them - who wouldn't? Your brand and engineering is in a realm of its own.
I'm trying to figure out how to mic the guitar cabinet here, with the two speakers vertically. I'm thinking SM57 or Sennheiser dynamic + condenser up front and maybe a condenser in the room to pick up that sweet comb filtered reflection. Should I just mic the top or bottom or both? If you have any time at all and can point me to a fast tip, I'd welcome it.
Thank you for the years and years of great enjoyment.
Cheers,
Derek
